Lifestyle Upholstery Limited 1997 - March 2002 Financial Director Appointed Director in May 1998 of this large upholstery manufacturer,turnover of16m, employing 250 people. Reporting directly to both company Managing Director and to Group Financial Director, the company being directly owned by Christie-Tyler Group Limited. Responsible for all day to day financial control and reporting, including accounts function, credit control and IT. This involves reporting on a weekly and monthly basis to the company Board of Directors and to the group Head Office with management, operational and financial measures. Full responsilbility also for managing cash flow, treasury and foreign exchange; preparation of statutory accounts, tax returns, annual budgets and regular performance forecasts. Responsible for the management of a team of 12 staff, including IT and specification of company information systems. This role meant playing a full role on the company's Board of Directors, providing operational and product costing information, assisting with general management, site and personnel issues. There was also a significant amount of day to day contact with both suppliers and customers, and the role involved a large part in price and contract negotiation. In 2002, the company was merged with another member of the Christie-Tyler group. I played a large part in financially merging the two companies, dealing with accounting and personnel matters. The companies merged in January 2002, and after an effective handover, I left in March 2002. Label Image limited Financial Director of a rapidly growing privately owned manufacturer of printed silk screen labels, turnover growing to 12m by 1997. Responsible for all day to day financial, costing and IT functions, preparation of accounts, all tax matters, and liasing with financial organisations and legal advisors. In 1996, the company was purchased by Ferguson International PLC. I played a full part in the negotiations for the sale of the company including contractual and legal matters, warranties, due diligence and audit procedures and the provision of financial information. Under Ferguson International, the role broadened to cover provision of management, financial, budgets and forecasting information to the Group. I was also responsible for the Financial Director role at a second Ferguson site based in Northallerton.
I joined Kilsby and Williams at the inception of a new firm of Chartered Accountants. This gave not only experience in accounting matters, but also in contributing to the structure and development of the business. This role entailed dealing with a range of mainly private owner managed businesses, dealing with the whole range of accountancy services including audit, taxation, raising finance, consultancy, management accounting and payroll. I was also involved in a significant amount of forensic accounting work on ad hoc reporting projects supporting legal advisors where 'expert witness' accountancy support was required. Chartered Accountants During my time with Touche Ross, I gained my professional qualifiction in 1990. The varied mix of clients in the Newport Office of Touche Ross were able to give experience and training in all areas of acountancy including the core areas of audit and accounting, and a 12 month secondment to the firms taxation department. I am Fixture Secretary of Ponthir Cricket Club and have captained the1st XI. I have also completed two marathons. |
